TreeGuard has been developed in the Netherlands to significantly reduce the amount of “Honeydew” that is produced by aphids feeding on trees in the summer months.

Problems can arise when “Honeydew” drops onto cars and other property and attracts dust.

“Honeydew” is not tree sap, but a waste product from Greenfly aphids, which live and feed on the leaves of trees.

These most commonly target Lime, Sycamore and Maple trees. Generally, “Honeydew” is most noticeable during warm, dry weather in summer when cars, patio furniture and paving appear sticky and dirty.

Generally trees have a large leaf area and are sometimes in public spaces. This makes it difficult and unsafe to spray them with chemicals.

Natural enemies such as birds, ladybirds, lacewings and other wildlife help to reduce the number of aphids feeding on trees. Cold, wet weather also controls the amount of “Honeydew” produced as the insects become less active or die. You may notice ladybirds and their black larvae, which feed on aphids and provide a natural control for them.

Unfortunately the natural ecosystem does not control aphids to such an extent that it avoids the nuisance caused when large trees are overhanging drives and paintwork on structures.

TreeGuard improves root growth and when applied the scent and the flavour of the tree change in such a way that aphids no longer find the tree attractive. The insects become restless and leave the tree. TreeGuard works systemically in the tree, which means it can be fed into the tree rooting system.
